Lesson 04

Let My People Go

Breaking the Curse of Poverty

Luke 4:18

The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor; He sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, Proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed

1.

Breaking the Curse of Poverty

+

Are you a prosperity church? No — Freedom is a gospel church

+

Prospering — it's part of that Gospel package

+

Principal of ownership — not everyone will own but the principal

+

A Steward must be found faithful — Can you be trusted with more

Matthew 11:5

The blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life and the good news is preached to the poor

Deuteronomy 28:38–42

They'll lend to you, but you won't lend to them. They'll be the head, but you'll be the tail. These curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the Lord and observe the commands and decrees he gave you.

Haggai 1:5–11

Give thought to your ways. You've planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never full. You put on clothes, but aren't warm. You earn wages, only to put in a purse with holes

+

Faithfulness in the Tithe and offering breaks the curse

Malachi 3:8–11

"Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,"

+

When I get more I'll give — no you won't — faithful with little…

+

If I give then I'm gonna be broke — but I'm already broke hahahaha

Deuteronomy 28:12–13

You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath

Galatians 3:13

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us ("Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree")

Psalm 105:37

He brought the sons out [of Egypt] with silver and gold

2.

Give and It Shall be Given — From Making Bricks to Owning Bricks

1 Timothy 6:5–10

Godliness with contentment is great gain. We brought nothing into this world, and we can carry nothing out. Having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. Those who desire to be rich (motives) fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, which some have strayed from the faith in their greed and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

+

Contentment is foundational — I'm satisfied in Him and in Him alone

+

You can still be broke and love money — unhealthy desire for riches

+

Money is the motive revealer, it shows everybody who we are

Proverbs 10:22

The blessing of the LORD makes a man rich (abundantly supplied) and he adds no sorrow or pain to it [for it comes as a blessing from God].

Genesis 26:12–13

He planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.

+

Make sure you teach people about this — first fruit

+

Giving like your life depends on it — cause it does

Not Enough
Just Enough
More Than Enough
Luke 6:38

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.

+

Sowing out of faith — whatever a man sows he will reap — name the seed

+

But — even if he never gave me anything else
